Ground Chicken Spaghetti

Ground chicken spaghetti is a family favorite for good reason. It’s easy to make, delicious and requires only a few simple ingredients. I’ve made it a regular part of our meal rotation, and I bet it’ll become a staple in your home, too!

I do make rice often, but there are evenings when I crave something different yet still want that comforting, home-cooked vibe. That’s when I turn to this recipe – it’s easy and hassle-free. My husband absolutely loves it.

When it comes to spaghetti, most people think of the traditional beef or meatball-based sauce. However, you can make the classic dish by using ground chicken instead.

By opting for ground chicken in your spaghetti recipe, you can enjoy a lighter and less greasy dish without compromising on flavor.

Ingredients

Here are the few simple ingredients you need for this recipe:

INGREDIENTS GROUND CHICKEN SPAGHETTI

Ground Chicken Selection: Lean ground chicken. You can easily buy it from the store. If you prefer, you can make it at home using chicken breast using a food processor. You can also use ground turkey instead for a milder taste.

Spaghetti: I recommend using thin spaghetti or angel hair pasta, which are both delicate and cook quickly. If you prefer, you can use thicker spaghetti or even linguine.

Tomatoes—I am using canned diced tomatoes (no salt) for the sauce. They add a bright flavor and give the recipe a saucy texture. You can also use store-bought pasta sauce.

Other: Butter and Olive oil. I am using both to add more flavor to the pasta.

Onion: Finely chopped white onion.

Seasoning: Black pepper, paprika, minced garlic and salt.

Water: Water to boil pasta.

Instructions

BOIL SPAGHETTI NOODLES
  • Boil water in the pot. Add spaghetti to the boiling water and let it cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • After the spaghetti is fully cooked, place it in a colander to drain the excess water.

Note: Reserve a small amount of the pasta water to use later if needed. Set the drained spaghetti aside.

FR ONION (1)
  • Next, add the oil to a pan over medium heat.
  • Once hot, add the chopped onions to the pan. Sauté onion until it becomes translucent.
  • Once the onions are sauteed, add butter and combine well.
  • Next, add the ground chicken to the pan and cook it until it’s thoroughly cooked. (6-8 mins on a medium-high heat)
  • Then, add the minced garlic and paprika to the pan. Cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
add tomatoes
  • Next, add the diced tomato and stir well to combine it with the chicken. Add pasta water.
  • Cover the lid and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  • Once the sauce starts simmering, season it with salt and pepper. Mix well until fully combined.

  • Add the boiled spaghetti to the pan, tossing it with the sauce.
  • Continue to cook for a few more minutes, allowing the spaghetti to absorb the flavors of the sauce.
  • Finally, garnish it with your favorite herbs and some grated cheese for an extra layer of flavor.

Storage & Tips

Here are some tips and storage suggestions:

TIPS

  • Cook the spaghetti al dente: Cook the spaghetti until it is firm to the bite. Overcooking can result in mushy noodles.
  • Stir the spaghetti: To prevent spaghetti noodles from sticking together, stir occasionally while boiling.
  • Reserve pasta water: Before draining the cooked spaghetti, save at least 2 cups of pasta water. You can use this water to adjust the consistency of the sauce if needed.

STORAGE

Any leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. Freezing is an option if you’d like to save them for later.

Let the pasta cool completely, then transfer it to airtight containers or freezer bags. Label them with the date and put them in the freezer for up to three months.

When you’re ready to enjoy it again, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
