Serving & Tips

Serving Suggestions

  • Rice/Roti: I love to pair it with rice or with roti.
  • Bread: You can also pair sardine patties with bread, making a delicious and satisfying sandwich. To make the sandwich even more flavorful, add lettuce, tomato, and onion.

Tips

  • Add red or green chilies to the patties mixture to add spice.
  • Add 1/2 teaspoon of flour if the patties become runny.

Substitute

  • You can substitute paprika powder for Kashmiri powder.
  • If you prefer a healthier cooking method, you can grill or air-fry the patties instead of frying them in oil.
  • You can use whole wheat flour or breadcrumbs instead of regular flour.

FAQ

1. Should you rinse canned sardines before using them in patties?

It is not necessary to rinse canned sardines before frying, but it’s a matter of personal preference.
Canned sardines are typically cooked and preserved in oil or sauce, and rinsing them can remove some of the flavor and nutrients. However, some people prefer to rinse the sardines to reduce the saltiness or to remove any unwanted flavors from the canning liquid.
