This dish is a popular Nepali snack that is suitable not only for vegetarians but also for anyone looking for a delicious spicy appetizer.
It is a quick and easy dish to prepare, making it the perfect choice for busy weeknights.
What Is Bhatmas Sadeko?
“Bhatmas” is the Nepali word for soybeans, and “sadeko” means marinated. So “Bhatmas sadeko” is a spicy Nepali snack made with marinated soybeans.
It’s basically like a spicy Nepali salad which is not only tasty but also a great source of protein.
Some other popular Nepali snacks include potato salad, chicken sadeko, momo sadeko, and peanuts sadeko. Here’s a simple recipe for making bhatmas sadeko at home.
Ingredients
#Soybeans: White Soybean
#Vegetables: Onion, tomato and cilantro.
#Ginger, garlic and green chili.
#Spices : Curry powder (Optional), turmeric powder and red chili Kashmiri powder
#Oil: Mustard Oil or any vegetable oil
#Seasonings: Salt to taste, lemon juice and sichuan pepper chili (Timmur).
Step-By-Step Photo Instructions
#1. Roast soybeans in a pan for 5-10 minutes on medium-high heat, stirring continuously until they are roasted and turn slightly brown. You can add oil to roast them, but I prefer without it. Once roasted, set them aside.
#2. Add all vegetables; tomato, onion, ginger, garlic, all spices, and seasonings to the bowl.
#3. Add roasted soybeans in a bowl.
#4. In a pan, heat mustard oil for a min on high heat. Once hot, pour oil into the bowl. Combine everything well, and bhatmas sadeko is ready to serve.
#5. Serve and enjoy with a cold drink like banana lassi and with beaten rice (chuira) or try with our fried rice.
Tips
#1. You can customize the spiciness to your liking. If you prefer a milder flavor, omit the green chili altogether. On the other hand, if you love spicy food, feel free to add more green chili.
#2. If you don’t like cilantro, you can use spring onion instead for garnish.
#3. Avoid storing bhatmas sadeko. Serve it immediately after preparation to maintain its crispy texture and freshness.
