“Bhatmas” is the Nepali word for soybeans, and “sadeko” means marinated. So “Bhatmas sadeko” is a spicy Nepali snack made with marinated soybeans.

It’s basically like a spicy Nepali salad which is not only tasty but also a great source of protein.

#Soybeans: White Soybean

#Vegetables: Onion, tomato and cilantro.

#Ginger, garlic and green chili.

#Spices : Curry powder (Optional), turmeric powder and red chili Kashmiri powder

#Oil: Mustard Oil or any vegetable oil

#Seasonings: Salt to taste, lemon juice and sichuan pepper chili (Timmur).

#1. Roast soybeans in a pan for 5-10 minutes on medium-high heat, stirring continuously until they are roasted and turn slightly brown. You can add oil to roast them, but I prefer without it. Once roasted, set them aside.

#2. Add all vegetables; tomato, onion, ginger, garlic, all spices, and seasonings to the bowl.

#4. In a pan, heat mustard oil for a min on high heat. Once hot, pour oil into the bowl. Combine everything well, and bhatmas sadeko is ready to serve.

#5. Serve and enjoy with a cold drink like banana lassi and with beaten rice (chuira) or try with our fried rice.

Tips

#1. You can customize the spiciness to your liking. If you prefer a milder flavor, omit the green chili altogether. On the other hand, if you love spicy food, feel free to add more green chili.

#2. If you don’t like cilantro, you can use spring onion instead for garnish.

#3. Avoid storing bhatmas sadeko. Serve it immediately after preparation to maintain its crispy texture and freshness.
